Man who slew `voodoo' mom ruled insane

A man accused of killing his mother because he suspected she wasa "voodoo priestess" was found not guilty by reason of insanityThursday.

Criminal Court Judge Barbara J. Disko ordered Bobby West, 39,remanded to the Illinois Mental Health Department for treatment.

Assistant Public Defender Marijane Placek contended West wasinsane when he shot his mother five times on Dec. 11, 1987, in theirhome at 3015 W. Cullerton. Two psychiatrists concurred.

West's brother, Leamon West, testified that Bobby West hadreceived mental treatment before he went into the Army, where heserved in Vietnam, and again after he left the service in 1970.
