NSW: Hazard reduction season starts
SYDNEY, April 2 AAP - Hazard reduction burns will be carried out this weekend to reduce
the threat of potential bushfires.
The NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS), National Parks and Wildlife Service and State Forests
firefighters will conduct 20 burns covering 3,200 hectares.
Areas targeted include Warringah, Pittwater, Hornsby, Ku-ring-gai, Gosford, Macarthur,
Wingecarribee, Muswellbrook, Hawkesbury, Gloucester and Chifley.
"Although hazard reduction burns are conducted throughout the year when weather allows,
this weekend signals a start to the traditional hazard reduction season which takes advantage
of milder weather conditions," RFS commissioner Phil Koperberg said.
